when will this group stop talking and really do something for the neighborhood. The agenda topics haven’t changed in years..,.,,how about an update on actual accomplishments.
I have been different neighborhood meetings over the years; I leave unimpressed but what I have heard and the lack of action.
There is one exception though. I went to the recent meeting about the urban habitat at the terminal. That group really has their act together.
Any group that is willing to step up and help out is okay by me. It is not an easy task. I read this website everyday and I am happy that people care.
Weed and Seed is a federal community crime initiative. It totally depends upon community residents between Buffalo C district trusting each other and working together. This means taking the time to make anonymous tips and reports to BPD. For some, doing this, has meant retaliation from the not-so law abiding citizens and harassment from others. This is done not in front of any camera but behind the scenes. Groups like Central Terminal, Broadway Market, Corpus Christi, etc have benefited from the additional law enforcement funds, Weed and Seed funding provides for extra patrols for October Fest, Dyngus Day Parade, and Easter at the market. There are a lot of dedicated residents living in Broadway fillmore who do small steps every day to make their neighborhood better and they do so without appreciation from a lot of so-called BF supporters.
I don’t mean to be negative here. I think that Weed and Seed has done much good. I just wish that folks forming groups not create new terms for us like Lower East Side or Broadway Market Village, and stick to established descriptions of our neighborhoods like Broadway-Fillmore, Broadway-Bailey, Walden-Bailey, Near East Side, Outer East Side, Willert Park, Lovejoy, Kaisertown, Seneca-Babcock, etc. Aside from that, people putting their money where their mouths are, are ok by me.
Yeah, that term “Lower East Side” REALLY bugs me 🙂 !.
I have a feeling it was imported from NYC.
andy,
The labeling of the Weed and Seed came from the target area covering more than parts of several neighborhoods–parts of Ellicott, Broadway-Fillmore, Emerson, Walden Heights, Broadway-Bailey.
Love the initiative, but still think it’s a crappy name, Beverly.
